Burger Sauce
Go all out! Make your own burger sauce!
Usually, a Burger Sauce is made with a combination of ketchup (tomato sauce) and mayonnaise, occasionally with a Special ingredient mixed in to make it a “Secret Blend”
Start with this basic recipe:
1/2 cup whole egg mayonnaise
2 tablespoons ketchup, tomato sauce (or tomato paste for more bite)
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
Salt & pepper to taste
Test drive this with your family, then you can start to make versions with a bit more individuality.
Just remember to make notes and measure everything, that way, when you find a good recipe, you can duplicate it every time and you then have your own “Signature” Sauce!
Think about adding:
Pickle Juice: Thins the sauce but adds sharpness
Cayene or Chilli powder: Obvious Adult kick
Chipotle: Smokey spice
Sage or Rosemary: Brings a herby finish to the sauce
Sriracha or other Hot Sauce: More Kick
Vegemite BBQ Sauce
Ingredients
1 medium onion finely chopped
2 tbsp raw sugar
1 tbsp olive oil
160 g tomato passata (⅔ cup)
1.5 tsp Vegemite
1.5 tbsp cider vinegar
⅔ tsp smoked paprika
⅔ tsp Worcestershire sauce
Heat the oil in a saucepan and fry the onion.
When the onion begins to soften add in the sugar.
Keep stirring on a low heat for about 8 minutes till the onions are soft and golden.
Add the remaining ingredients, bring to a low simmer and hold on a low bubble for 10 minutes while stirring the mixture often to prevent sticking.
Remove the pan from the heat and allow the mixture to cool a little before blending to a smooth puree in a food processor or blender.
Allow the sauce to cool completely before serving.
