These are a favourite in my house!
A Dark and Deeply Chocolate hit.
These waffles are a quick and easy Chocolate treat for anytime!
The Butter gives the waffles a lovely soft mouth feel and a nice crisp exterior
225g (1 ½ cups) all-purpose flour
100g (1 cup) unsweetened cocoa powder
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup caster sugar
120g (½ cup) softened butter
3 large eggs
½ cup sour cream
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
335ml (1 1/3) cups whole milk
125g (4.5oz) chopped Dark Coverture chocolate (min 70% cocoa)
Icing sugar, for dusting
Combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar in a large bowl.
In your mixing bowl, carefully whisk together the butter, eggs, sour cream, vanilla extract, and milk.
With the mixer running on low, add the flour mixture, add in the chocolate chips, and mix to form a batter, an electric mixer with the paddle attachment is perfect
Mixing only until all the flour is just absorbed.
Preheat your waffle maker.
Spoon 1/3 to 1/2 cup batter onto each square of your preheated waffle iron or about 2/3 cup batter into the centre of a Belgian “5-heart” waffle maker.
Cook the waffles until set and completely cooked through, this will be roughly 5 minutes.
Serve warm with your favourite toppings
I like a good heavy cream whipped with a little orange essence and sprinkled with grated orange peel.
Another favourite is to steep fresh ginger slices in maple syrup for a couple of days, strain and pour over vanilla ice cream.
